The Formula SAE program is an international series of competitions that challenge university student teams to design, build, race and justify an open wheeled, formula style racing vehicle. Since the inception of the local Australasian competition, the University of Melbourne has been competing in the event. MUR Motorsports, the University’s representative team, is made up primarily of mechanical engineering students (with some input from the electrical faculty) who conceptualise, create and compete in a new vehicle every year.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the official sponsor and host of RoboCupJunior Victoria, a competition for young people that encourages the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics research. The competition utilises engineering and IT skills, as well as encouraging social development through sportsmanship, sharing, teamwork, cooperation, organisational skills, and understanding of differences between individuals and nations.
Our alumni make a network of almost 30,000 engineering and IT graduates across 104 countries. This expansive and unique community — which you join upon completing your degree — provides a platform for motivation as well as a diverse networking opportunity. We hope you’ll take advantage of our alumni services throughout your career.
