Thesis Title
Plasticity induced magnetisation losses in energy conversion processes
Research overview
Electric steels ensure the efficient operation of power transformers or electric motors. The efficiency of the involved magnetisation and demagnetisation process is reduced by the pinning of magnetic domain walls with the microstructure (e.g., dislocations) in the electric steel. By combining spin dynamics and molecular dynamic simulations, the interaction between lattice defects and magnetic domain walls are investigated at the nanometre scale to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms leading to domain wall pinning in soft-magnetic materials. The insights are combined with simulations-inspired experiments at the RWTH Aachen.
