Thesis Title

Oxidation Chemistry of Hydrogen/Natural Gas Blends

Research overview

Hydrogen is a promising carbon-free fuel for decarbonizing energy sectors. However, hydrogen faces many challenges such as safe and cost-effective storage and transportation. In that regard, hydrogen injection into natural gas networks is a viable solution. Nonetheless, the combustion process of hydrogen and natural gas blends are not fully understood. The large variety of natural gas composition also increases the complexity of the fuel interactions. This PhD investigates combustion chemistry of H2/natural gas blends for high pressure combustion. Experimental data will be obtained in a high-pressure flow reactor to develop chemical kinetic mechanisms for simulating real-world combustion processes.
