Thesis Title

Developing a microfluidic device for sperm investigation

Research overview

A microfluidic cross-slot trap is one of the best approaches for manipulating micron-scale particles or cells with high resolution. This is due to various advantages of this approach such as long residence time, creating uniform strain rate and extensional flow, a less invasive environment, and no need for an external energy source. Therefore, due to the importance of sperm in the field of fertility and contraception, my research focusses on trapping sperm in a microchannel with a real-time control system. This project aims to investigate influential factors such as the flow conditions on the functionality of flagellum and mitochondria.
