Thesis Title

Turbulent Particle-laden Plumes in Stratified Environment

Research overview

From volcanic eruptions to bushfires, turbulent plumes in stratified environment are ubiquitous in the nature. Understanding the dynamics of a turbulent plume is essential in predicting and minimizing the damages from the natural disasters. There have been studies in the past investigating the important characteristics of a turbulent plume in stratified environment such as maximum height of rise and neutral buoyancy height. However, further study necessitates better understanding about the role of particles in the vertical development of the plume, as well as its lateral spreading. Therefore, I plan to pursue a research towards ‘Turbulent particle-laden plumes in stratified environment’.
