Thesis Title

The role of hydrogen in decarbonizing a coupled energy system

Research overview

Flexibility can be provided by the coupling of power and other energy sectors, such as heating and transport sectors. This work examines the role of hydrogen in the transition to a decarbonized energy system in three steps:
-investigating the economic viability of hydrogen fuel;
-investigating the least-cost transition pathways to decarbonize a coupled energy system; and
-investigating the value and economic performance of flexibility sources, such as electrolysis, under different levels of renewable adoption or emissions abatement.
