Thesis Title

Impact of Fuel Octane Number on Engine Efficiency and Emissions of Hybrid Powertrains

Research overview

Hybrid electric vehicles combine the best of internal combustion engine and battery electric drive. The engine in these vehicles operates with high efficiency but is more prone to abnormal combustion such as engine knock. This PhD investigates the anti-knock characteristics of hybrid engine and the impact of fuel octane number on drive cycle fuel efficiency. The outcome will be used to guide powertrain design and develop fuel standards.
