Thesis title
Testing efficacy of spanwise wall oscillations to achieve skin-friction drag reduction in practical flow conditions
Research overview
This project will experimentally assess the efficacy of drag reduction using spanwise wall oscillations in high Reynolds number flows with rough walls and pressure gradients. Conducted at the University of Melbourne's HRNBLWT with the SATB, the study will begin by validating the setup through mean skin friction drag and hotwire measurements on a stationary rough wall. Drag measurements will then be taken using a floating element drag balance for varying wall roughness. Additionally, fluctuating surface pressure measurements will investigate flow dynamics, focusing on the effects of adverse pressure gradients on drag reduction.
