Thesis title

Optimizing the sintering of Binder Jet 3D printed samples by utilizing a phase field modelling-based approach

Research overview

To provide an in-depth understanding of the effects of various material as well as process relatedfactors on sintering of BJ3D printed samples, it is strongly suggested to implement time-effectiveand economical approaches. This calls for an immediate effort into the use of computationalsimulations and modelling such as phase field approach, which enables us to monitor themicrostructural changes during the process. The main goal of the current project is to usenumerical techniques to investigate the impacts of the sintering parameters and materialsproperties on sintering of BJ3D printed samples. These analyses are then used to establish modelsfor the design of new materials for BJ3DP. The present work utilizes some of the pre-existingcapabilities of the MOOSE package to conduct the phase field modelling.
