Thesis title
Development of roughness-induced transition models for low- and high- pressure turbines using machine learning methods
Research overview
My research will focus on extending the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) -Driven Training Framework to account for surface roughness effects on both separation-induced and bypass transition. First, an additional transport equation for roughness amplification factor will be combined with Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulations to provide baseline data; Then, the machine learning approach will be employed to develop a new set of characteristic quantities and identify their contribution to roughness effects. Eventually, this study is aiming to provide accurate transition prediction in rough cases and thus improve our understanding of its role in gas turbines.
