Thesis title

Dynamics of dissolution of ice shelf into saline water

Research overview

Ocean models often struggle to accurately parameterise small-scale processes involved in basal melting. This project aims to investigate the dynamics of boundary layers formed near sloping ice shelves under both natural and forced convection, using DNS/LES with supporting experimental data. The study also plans to explore the use of Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINN) to reconstruct salinity fields from available experimental data, improving the accuracy of modelling dissolution processes in ice-shelf environments.
