Thesis title

Numerical Investigation of Ocean Convection and Turbulent Mixing on the Antarctic Margins

Research overview

The convection processes on the Antarctic continental shelf are crucial for investigating ice shelf melting, yet our understanding remains limited by current numerical models and observational capabilities. This research addresses these challenges through advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) techniques. By investigating small-scale turbulence, eddies, and mixing processes in detail, this study aims to enhance our insight into how heat transfers from the surface to deeper ocean layers and offshore regions. The outcomes of this research are expected to yield more precise projections of sea level rise and future climate scenarios.
