Thesis title

Premixed turbulent flames on a Bunsen-type burner

Research overview

Aiming to complement a recent experimental investigation on premixed turbulent flames on a
Bunsen-type burner performed at UTIAS, this numerical study is planned to fill out the gaps formed
due to the limitations of measuring capabilities and analysis procedures. The objectives are
presented in a deep understanding of the dynamic interaction between turbulence and flame
fronts; how this interaction forms, what the primary and secondary contributors are, and how it
affects the geometric (e.g., flame thickness) and dynamic (e.g., burning rate) flame properties.
These goals are the building blocks for the main outcome of this proposed research; assessing how
accurate numerical models can predict certain flame characteristics in real-life operating conditions
of practical engines, e.g., gas turbine engines.
