Thesis title
Dual Direct Injection Hydrogen-Ammonia Spark-Ignition Engine: Performance, Emissions and Predictive Modelling
Research overview
Hydrogen and ammonia are promising carbon-free fuels, but controlling combustion and nitrogen-containing emissions remains a challenge. This PhD experimentally investigates liquid ammonia injection strategies in hydrogen–ammonia engines. The effects of injection timing and split injection on evaporation, mixture formation and combustion are examined, with emphasis on the interaction between evaporative cooling and in-cylinder selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR). Engine efficiency and emissions of nitrogen oxides, nitrous oxide and unburned ammonia are evaluated to identify injection strategies that reduce emissions while maintaining efficient combustion.
