Thesis Title

Optimizing the sintering of Binder Jet 3D printed samples byutilizing a phase field modelling-based approach

Research overview

To provide an in-depth understanding of the effects of various material as well as process related
factors on sintering of BJ3D printed samples, it is strongly suggested to implement time-effective
and economical approaches. This calls for an immediate effort into the use of computational
simulations and modelling such as phase field approach, which enables us to monitor the
microstructural changes during the process. The main goal of the current project is to use
numerical techniques to investigate the impacts of the sintering parameters and materials
properties on sintering of BJ3D printed samples. These analyses are then used to establish models
for the design of new materials for BJ3DP. The present work utilizes some of the pre-existing
capabilities of the MOOSE package to conduct the phase field modelling.
