Thesis Title
Scale-interactions and energy-efficient drag reduction for rough-wall high-Re flows
Research overview
First, study the efficacy of both actuation strategies (targeting the viscous and
inertial forces) in reducing drag for transitionally and fully rough-wall flows.
Comparing the smooth and rough-wall results will provide additional key physical
insights into wall-bounded flows. In addition, we use our new insights to explore
alternate strategies that can achieve similar drag reduction results without the
need to move the surface. The goal is to bridge the gap between understanding
new paths for drag reduction and implementation in practice.
