Thesis Title

Turbulent Flow over Spatially Varying Roughness

Research overview

From the air around a moving car to the water around a cruising ship, wall-bounded turbulent flows are ubiquitous in our daily lives. Many existing models make accurate predictions in a wide range of engineering applications. When surfaces exhibit large-scale changes in roughness, they induce new flow phenomena and alter important engineering quantities, such as drag and heat transfer. Through generating a new database with turbulent flows over such heterogeneous surfaces and analysing the results, this thesis evaluates the use of existing models in such applications.
