Thesis Title

Experimental and Numerical Studies of Vertical Surface Piercing Cylinders

Research overview

Free surface flow around surface piercing cylinders is investigated by conducting towing tank experiments and CFD Simulations. The experimental results are used for preliminary investigation into the free surface behaviour, focusing in identifying flow regimes and the transition points between then, and to provide a dataset for validation of the CFD model. CFD simulations are used to greatly expand the investigated parameter space and continue investigations into impact of geometry on the flow dynamics.
